Join me for a 2-day hands-on course to learn the method of Therapeutic Mosaics. This occupation focused workshop is designed to be useful in a variety of clinical settings and with multiple clientele including motor control and performance impaired by stroke, traumatic brain injury, neurological and orthopedic conditions, and general debility resulting from prolonged hospitalization.
Upon completion of this workshop, participant will have an understanding of:
- How to identify criteria for inclusion
- Precautions and safety issues
- Staff to patient ratio and group process
- Set-up and grading of activity to achieve the maximun therapeutic value
- How to use the different materials and tools necessary for mosaics
- Techniques for the direct and indirect methods of tile setting
- Design considerations
- Steps involved to create various projects practical to the target environment
Certificate of completion including 12 professional contact hours will be issued at the end of the workshop.
Day One, 8am - 4pm
Begins with a short initial lecture and presentation, introduction to materials, instruction in cutting ceramic tiles and dishes, design and pattern choices, and setting techniques. Most of the day will be dedicated to the actual "setting" of tiles using both the direct and indirect methods to create a flower pot for you to take home. Detailed handouts will be provided. I suggest bringing your lunch.
Day Two, 8am - 12pm
After the piece has a chance to dry overnight, you will grout your piece. All aspects of successful grouting will be convered.
Cost: $300 plus $25 materials fee
12 Contact Hours appropriate for Occupational Therapy licensure
